The Augustinum II foundation old people’s home is located on Stuttgart’s Killesberg next to the Weissenhofsiedlung and is thus conspicuous within the topographical and urban structure. 300 residential units of different sizes are fitted into four double towers. The heights of the non-uniform individual structures are staggered, ranging from eight to five storeys and their scale is similar to that of the neighbouring residential development. The residential towers are connected to community facilities via the basement storey, which is stepped to fit in with the terrain. The complex draws back from the busy approach road to the west, while the main entrance faces the quiet service road to the south. The complex’s expansive grounds complement its open character. The loggias for to the larger apartments are offset, lending life to the austere cubes.
