Episode
This e-commerce company specializes in selling computers and electronic devices. Starting from a prefab office in the owner’s backyard, much like a classic startup, the company has grown with a close-knit team of trusted staff who have been instrumental in its success. The plan for the new headquarters includes offices, meeting rooms, a logistics warehouse for stock and shipping, and a physical retail store—all while preserving the entrepreneurial spirit that defines the company.
As is increasingly common across industries, creating a workplace that attracts and retains employees is essential when designing offices. To ensure a productive, comfortable, and fulfilling work environment, a working group—including staff members—was formed to collaborate on the design. This collaborative approach not only improved the design but also facilitated a smooth transition to the new building after relocation.
Planning
The office staff and the warehouse team, responsible for receiving and shipping products, share a single connected space separated by glass panels. This layout enhances operational efficiency and fosters a sense of unity within the organization.
To brighten the deep warehouse space, which lacks natural light, large windows connected to an atrium in the office area were planned, letting more natural light to illuminate the workspace.
On the third floor, a terrace leads to a grand staircase that extends to a spacious rooftop terrace with views of Mount Fuji. This outdoor area serves as a space for relaxation, recreation, and fostering communication among staff members, promoting both well-being and teamwork.
