Anchored on the slopes of Red Mountain with a panoramic view of the adjacent peaks, ski slopes, and the town of Aspen, this speculative private residence has a profound connection to the land upon which it is placed.
Steeply sloped, the site affords stunning views over Aspen to the west and heavily wooded virtually undeveloped views to the south. The design takes advantage of these inherent qualities by anchoring long stone walls into the hillside, which help to vector framed views southward into the landscape. A panoramic view to the west is enhanced by a vast reflecting pool/roof which also eclipses one’s view of nearby homes, giving a sense of having the mountain to one’s self.
The home is entered via a Porte Cochere from the upper most level, or via a garage on the homes mid-level. Arriving on the upper level, one enters a two-story mezzanine gallery and is greeted with spectacular views. Adjacent to the gallery is an aspen studded courtyard, which acts as an extension of the indoor spaces below. When entering from the garage, one’s view is directed southward past a kitchen and dining area along an infinity edge pool. The home’s north south axis affords maximum view and privacy. Spaces are discreetly tucked into the hillside or cradled by the structure’s long stone walls. A living room and outdoor terraces open to the south, taking maximum advantage of the sun. The home has three “master suites” and two additional en suite bedrooms which are intended to accommodate more than one family. All have direct access to the landscape.
The home also includes a great room with bar, gym, wine cellar, media room, and spa. Steel, glass and stone resonate with the areas local character, but are tempered with wide plank oak and other wood finishes that provide warmth.
