This hotel, situated in Puerto Maldonado, emerges as an archetypical construction that is inserted into the natural density of its environment. Located close to the Madre de Dios river, the building establishes a contrast between two differentiated zones: one, flat, with long views of the river, and the other dense and vertical, dominated by the existing forest. The hotel is organized around a series of pavilions that interact with the contrasting situation, experimenting with the surrounding landscape. To intervene in a tropical setting, a displacement of knowledge was needed, in order to incorporate the construction and living customs of the location into the design. In that sense, the use of rock and wood, the double ventilation system, and the elevation of the floor from the ground are a reinterpretation of typical Amazonian architecture.
