The 300 m2 detached family house lies on a slope at the edge of the village of Üsslingen in Kanton Thurgau. It is a prefabricated timber structure built on a pre-cast concrete basement. The position of the building is dictated by the surrounding topography. The entrance is on the top floor with kitchen and living room. A staircase descends to the bedrooms on the middle level and further to the basement, with access to the terrace and outdoor pool. The idea of the triple sawtooth roof was originally derived from the local building laws which only allowed pitched roofs. This in turn has connotations to the typical factory roof when lined up together. Therefore, the top floor of this small “factory for living” is divided into three areas for working, cooking and living.
