The house is located in a peaceful suburban area well away from downtown Matsuyama.

The site is lined with neighboring houses except for the road on the east side, but each site is large enough to maintain a moderate distance from the other. The client wanted to keep the south garden as much as possible, and to live openly with a view of this garden.

When the required room volumes were applied to the site, the LDK facing the south garden would have sufficient lighting, but the rooms on the north side of the house would not have enough lighting. Considering the passage to the existing main house on the west side of the site, it was not possible to secure the depth to create a courtyard like a courtyard house. Therefore, the large one-story roof was partially bent in the opposite direction of the slope to create an opening that would allow lighting into the living room on the north side of the house. As a result, the living room on the north side of the house is illuminated from the south, but the residents have to look at the bent, one-sided roof. On the north side, there are Western-style rooms, a Japanese-style room, and a bathroom, and we are planning to further develop a planting plan for each of these rooms in the future.

The structure is a mixture of RC and wood. RC was selected for the large openings to the south garden and for the waterproofing of the green roof, while wood was used for the rest of the structure. Furthermore, the RC structure bears the horizontal forces, making it unnecessary to have walls to bear the horizontal forces in the wooden structure, thus expanding the LDK.

There are many cases where a single-story house is desired if the site is large enough, but depending on the given conditions, the house may be cramped. By replacing the roof with a garden, we were able to organize the space in a compact manner, and we feel that we have created a one-story space that creates openness in all the living rooms.
