An incident kills two people at the São Paulo stadium set to host the opening ceremony of the Brazil World Cup next year.
Two construction workers were killed when a crane collapsed on November 27 at the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, one of 12 venues Brazil is building for next year's FIFA World Cup. The stadium is set to host the opening festivities in June, but the collapse, which destroyed part of the facade, may delay its completion. The incident is being attributed to the year-end deadline FIFA gave Brazil for completing the stadiums. The country has been scrambling to finish the stadiums, and is considering round-the-clock construction schedules. Nevertheless, this is the third fatal accident involving the World Cup stadiums in Brazil; two more construction workers were killed in the last couple years. Thankfully, the accident happened at lunchtime, when most of the workers were away from the site of the collapse.
