Three family units spanning four generations share this home. A void pierces the entire structure, serving on the basement floor as a drying area for the family’s kendo practice hall, and throughout the house to bring in sunlight and air. The void also allows family members to sense one another’s presence without giving up privacy, gently linking the multigenerational family while permitting each unit to maintain independence.
