National Design Awards Winners

The Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum has announced the winners of the 2013 National Design Awards. Ten recipients will receive awards at a gala in October, one in each category: Lifetime Achievement, Design Mind, Corporate & Institutional Achievement, Architecture Design, Communication Design, Fashion Design, Interaction Design, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Product Design. Winners in the architecture and related categories are highlighted below and in the images at left.

Lifetime Achievement: James Wines, founder and president of SITE.
 

Design Mind: Michael Sorkin, principal of Michael Sorkin Studio, president of Terreform, Distinguished Professor of Architecture and the Director of the Graduate Urban Design Program at the City College of New York; and president of the Institute for Urban Design.

Architecture Design: Studio Gang Architects, founded by MacArthur fellow Jeanne Gang.

Interior Design: Aidlin Darling Design, led by partners Joshua Aidlin and David Darling.

Landscape Architecture: Margie Ruddick, an independent landscape architect who has worked with Judith Heintz and WRT, and has taught at Harvard, Yale, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, Parsons School of Design, and Schumacher College in England.
