Berlin-based photographer Malte Brandenburg's Stacked series of photographs presents frontal views of his city's post-war housing estates in order to show the variation found in the "fairly identical" buildings.

Brandenburg is able to show this variation by limiting the square frame to roughly the top ten floors of each building, so the subtle differences at the roof are evident as well as those found in the wall surfaces and the repeated windows. But the consistently blue, cloudless skies are also important elements in making the variations come the fore – and they turn Brandenburg's analytical studies into artistic images.
