Nestled among trees and hedges in the municipality of Horgen on Lake Zurich, the single-family house from the 1970s provides a private and recreational environment, covering approximately 200 square meters. The current project for Raumtakt involves transforming this single-family house into a duplex. The focus of the project is on meeting the family's needs: once a home for two sisters who grew up there, it is now intended for them to live together under one roof according to modern standards, while still having their individual spaces.

The decision to transform the house arose not only from shared memories and emotional value but also from a commitment to sustainability. Raumtakt developed a comprehensive concept, incorporating new windows, a move away from fossil fuels, environmentally friendly roof insulation, and other preparations for future interventions. The building envelope now meets contemporary energy consumption standards.

To convert the single-family house into a duplex, two contemporary and future-proof apartments are being created. The space requirements are adapted to the current needs and circumstances of the residents, and the individual character is made visible through the interior design of both apartments, always with an eye toward future generations. The Horgen single-family house, where the clients grew up, has been carefully transformed into two modern condominiums. These units aim to provide an attractive living experience in a natural environment. The interior design of both apartments is crafted to create a modern and inviting ambiance while preserving the original character of the building. Both apartments are generously designed, offering ample space for a comfortable living atmosphere.

The transformation of the house was not only driven by a high standard for contemporary architecture but also by the incorporation of the latest standards for energy efficiency and sustainability. A modern air-source heat pump serves as the primary energy source, and improved roof and facade insulation significantly reduces the building's energy consumption. The redesign plan also considered the option to install a photovoltaic system at a later date, further enhancing the building's energy efficiency.

Another crucial aspect of the renovation was the integration of the building into its surroundings, aiming for a harmonious connection between architecture and nature. Existing trees and plants were incorporated into the garden design, contributing to a pleasant living experience in a natural setting.

Overall, the renovation project of the single-family house in Horgen serves as a practical example of how an older building can be modernized to meet contemporary needs. The transformation into two modern condominiums, the use of an air-source heat pump as the primary energy source, improved insulation, and preparation for a future photovoltaic installation are measures that make the building energy-efficient and sustainable.
