RAGA
The site for this residential project, in the vicinity of an upcoming Industrial corridor in Chennai, was abutting a densely forested area, notified as a protected zone, ensuring a permanent open space abutting the site. This opportunity became the fulcrum around which the design hinged - to allow the forest to penetrate into the site, creating a seamless extension of the green space into the heart of the development.
The buildings are seen as a series of modular blocks which are lined up on either side of the ‘forest’ and are staggered to create an interesting architectural intervention, extending and retreating in turn. The emphasis is again, on creating a rich pedestrian experience for the community, by retaining the organic character of the forest green and contrasting it with the simple and functional architecture of the buildings straddling it.
