Handel Architects is leading the design of the renovation and adaptive reuse of Pier 57 into a vibrant new mixed-use destination. The first and second floors will include a 155,000 sq. ft. destination marketplace with food offerings curated by celebrity chef Anthony Bordain. The Pier’s upper floors will contain 250,000 sq. ft. of office space, anchored by Google, and the roof will be transformed into a new public park with the addition of a restaurant pavilion as well as screening venue for the Tribeca Film Festival.
Built in its current form in the early 1950s, the pier served as a shipping terminal for a number of years before succumbing to the decline in the city’s maritime industry. It served as a parking garage for the city’s buses for three decades, and has been vacant since 2003. In 2004 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
