Rather than prescribing how children should play – for instance by installing typical playground equipment – the goal of this playground is to create an opportunity for curiosity and sociability to develop. As the children grow, they see the undulating grass landscape differently and are able to explore different parts of it. The square wooden bars protruding from the brick wall become benches to sit on at story time, display stands, or athletic equipment depending on the situation. The underground tunnel and observation dome give the children a new view on the world. Who can make it all the way to the end of the bumpy stepping-stone path? The idea is for the children to make up their own rules and ways of playing.
