The new building is divided into four parallel tracts, which are connected to the north-south running glazed main circulation axis. Transparent one-storey lateral tracts allow for an intimate courtyard situation, while at the same time the view towards the Taunus mountain range can still be experienced. A lightweight roof in the north connects the Biologicum to the neighbouring MPI and marks the main entrance. Apart from the completely glazed access zones large-sized closed elements characterize the façades. This way the glass proportion is less than 40 percent thus meeting today’s ecologic energetic requirements.
