Superflux, a collaborative design practice based in London, has crafted a six-minute film that expresses their ongoing investigations into "the social, political and cultural potential of drone technology as it enters civil space."
According to Superflux, the Drone Aviary Project "aims to give a glimpse into a near-future city co-habit with 'intelligent' semi autonomous, networked, flying machines." The film visually speculates on how drones will become a part of our cities, raising issues that go hand in hand with technology's spread, namely security and surveillance. But it also embraces the notion that drones extend the reach of our human bodies and offer up exciting possibilities for the technology.
Superflux is exhibiting their Drone Aviary project at the V&A as part of the show All of This Belongs to You, running from 1 April to 19 July 2015.
