The European Commission and Fundació Mies van der Rohe have announced the second and final list of works competing for the 2022 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award. Together with the first list announced in February, 532 works are in the running for the prestigious award.
The 85 projects, announced on Thursday, join the 449 works announced in early February. The nominations took place in two phases and over a longer-than-usual period "to ensure the safety, rigor and excellence of the evaluation of all the projects as a result of the international concern about the global situation," per a statement.
The long list of 532 projects completed in 41 countries between October 2018 and April 2021 is found on the website of the EU Mies Award. The winners will be announced in April 2022 and a ceremony taking place in May 2022, though between now and then will be the announcements of the shortlist (January 2022) and five finalists (February 2022).
We'll report on those winnowing stages of the EU Mies Award as the announcements are made. In the meantime, here is a rapid-fire slideshow of all 532 nominated works (best seen maximized on a monitor or on a smartphone), courtesy of the European Commission and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe:
