The Palais de Tokyo in Paris reopened on April 12, 2012 after a major renovation. The second phase of Lacaton & Vassal's design triples the size of the Palais and makes it the largest contemporary arts center in Europe. According to the architects, the design is a "light response" that embraces the rough character of the 1937 original building, in response to a limited budget and a desire to keep the exhibition spaces flexible and open.
