BWM Designers & Architects

Erich Bernard (born in 1965 in Graz) is the visionary behind BWM architecture firm.

As an author of architecture-related books and cultural and historical studies, e.g. on the topic of the summer residences in the Salzkammergut region, his highly knowledgeable texts reflect his manifold interests.

One of his key competencies is the creation of exclusive interior designs – for instance, for John Harris fitness centre, A.E. Köchert jewellers, Manner, and Hotel Vivamayr in Altaussee.

As one of the three eponymous company founders, he was actively involved in all stages in the firm’s development, most recently in the establishment of bwmretail.

In addition to his many engagements as a speaker, he was also a visiting lecturer for the Interior Design & 3D Design degree course at the New Design University St. Pölten (NDU) in 2013 and 2015.

Markus Kaplan (born in 1972 in Salzburg) is an expert on urban construction, residential and hotel building.

He joined BWM in its founding year 2004. In 2008 he became a junior partner and from 2014 on a shareholder.

He closely collaborats with project developers planning appartments as well as hotels.

Markus Kaplan also represents BWM as an associate with the URBANAUTS Hospitality Group, that runs the innovative grätzlhotel in Vienna.

Social and cultural sustainability combined with diversity are importend issues that determin everything he does.

Johann Moser (born in 1961 in Waizenkirchen, Upper Austria) is the mastermind of BWM´s culture projects.

Together with Daniela Walten and Erich Bernard he is also one of the founders of BWM Architekten.

As a trained artist his speciality is the planning and finetuning of exhibitions – such as the Literature Museum of Österreichische Nationalbibliothek, the Austrian Pavilion for the EXPO 2017 in Astana/ Kazakhstan or the architectural design of the House of Austrian History.

He also travels giving talkes and making presentations.

Daniela Walten (born 1971 in Graz) is a strategist with a keen sense for long-term planning.

After her studies in Graz and Naples and a stint at up-coming architecture firms, she founded BWM Architekten together with Erich Bernhard and Johann Moser in 2004.

She is responsible for the firm’s internal project management and external communication. She has realized construction projects in the field of shop design and corporate culture for companies operating internationally.

She also developed and co-founded the successful sister company bwmretail in 2013.
