The project is situated in parklike surroundings in Gentofte north of Copenhagen and consists of housing for 120 elderly with shared communal and service areas.
The masterplan comprises three groups of two-storied row houses with two free-standing communal buildings, layed out in a large park open to the public. Within the row houses, the individual apartments are connected by common living areas and immediate service facilities. This contributes to an effective overall ground plan with a variety of in-between garden spaces.
Accentuated with bay windows, chimneys and gables as repetitive architectural motives, the buildings are scaled down to harmonize with the surrounding neighbourhood. The individual flats are innovative in Danish eldercare, enjoying maximum daylight and varying views to the surroundings.
The project has its focus in creating a home rather than an institution, without compromising the working environment of the employees. Environmental sustainability is emphasized throughout the project, including local drainage og rainwater, sustainable energy sources and energy efficiency.
