This library is located in an urban consolidated area to the east of Madrid. The programme density meant that it had to be a compact volume, set back on the ground floor; however, it is perforated by various patios which have later been planted with native vegetation.
The volume is divided into two blocks: the dynamic and the static. The first is on the south side of the building, designed as an open space which could be occupied according to the users’ needs. This area faces towards the tranquility of a park, with a façade combining wood and transparent modules; pieces that can be changed easily to adapt to internal uses.
The static band, to the north, houses the fixed activities: circulation, attention to the public, internal offices, and some bookshelves. The façade, therefore, is a mesh which protects and acts as a filter to allow connection with the street, and which controls the entry of light.
