Because of its extraordinarily complex program, the Time Warner Center, perhaps to a greater degree than any other modern American building, exemplifies the concept of a city within a building, rather than a building within a city. In addition to service, transit, and parking infrastructure, the mixed-use project encompasses the corporate headquarters of Time Warner, including production facilities for CNN and Time Warner media outlets; the Shops at Columbus Circle, a retail and restaurant complex; Jazz at Lincoln Center, a multi-hall performance and education facility; the five-star Mandarin Oriental Hotel; a large health club; and the One Central Park luxury condominiums.
