The site along the main road is 17m in frontage x 59m in depth, with buildings scattered among the fields in the surrounding area, and the view is of a generous scale, with the line of sight going all the way through. The house is for a family of four: the master, who runs a construction company, his wife, and two children.
The house was expected to serve not only as a residence, but also as a model house to advertise the construction company. The flat site of 280 tsubo (1,860 square meters) was devoid of trees, so it was difficult to find any immediate clues to the design, and the client felt it necessary to create an external space of a scale that would serve as a focal point for living. The T-shaped building was inserted against the large scale of the site to divide the space into smaller scales, but at the same time to create a state in which each place has a relationship with each other and is dotted with places of various coziness.
