The extension of the cemetery of Varese in Induno Olona can be described as an“in-between”project among the courtyard of the old enclosure, designed by Maciachini, and the hills behind it on a steep slope.
The intervention is part of a boundary in relation with the natural and the artificial environment, becoming the subject that regulates its connections both visually and morphologically.
this shows the effectiveness of the proposed action, defining an element capable of changing the place, assuming its qualitative reason and its characteristics.
This operation was carried out through the construction of a long parallelepiped cladded in white Carrara marble. the volume cut out from the front towards the cemetery by a sequence of slits positioned with a harmonic yet irregular rhythm that, combined with the regular scanning slits on the roof, give the interior space an intensive pattern that is generated by the natural light that changes throughout the day.
