This is an instance of restoration of a pre-1955 residence located in the ‘Two villages’ district on the Island of Tinos. In its initial form, there was a later addition at the east side of the house which was used as an outdoor toilet. This addition, which was incompatible with the rest structure, has been removed, thus creating a direct access from the kitchen to the outdoor space of the house. The outdoor space has also been re-formed, maximizing the available space, thus creating a pleasant space with panoramic view to the sea. The structure has been structurally reinforced or partially replaced where needed, the ceiling which was originaly constructed with traditional techniques (wooden beams, covering above the beams with pieces of local slate) has been restored and the floor has been covered with screed. Furthermore, the external wooden frames have been replaced with new ones double glazed, the kitchen and the bathroom have also been renovated, one of the room next to the kitchen has been transformed into a w.c. and a new fireplace has been created at the centre of the living room, all according to the traditional forms, colours and techniques. Next to the main residence there is a small guest house. The structure has been designed in accordance with the existing residence’s forms and volumes and integrates totally into the landscape.
