Tourist Orientation Center, Dalinor National Natural Reserve, Inner Mongolia, China 2005
This is a facility to receive visitors to the Dalinor National Natural Reverse. Inside of the building, an exhibition and a film introducing the local geology and geography, flora and fauna, as well as the culture of the local herdsmen as well as offices and other supporting programs are housed. In order to reduce the impact on the prairie, we treated in the design architecture as a part of site, i.e. the grassland. Specifically, the building profile is kept low and its roof made into a slope that connects to the ground, meanwhile the lower level of the building is sunken into the ground. Both people and cattle now have easy access to the planted rooftop. The project can be perceived as an attempt of making artificial terrain.
