418 hotel rooms and congress hall for 3000 seated guests
The Stockholm Waterfront provides new opportunities to attract global events and visitors in one combined facility right in the heart of the city. The multi-functional building features a congress hall accommodating 3000 delegates, a 2000-seater banqueting hall; a 414 room four-star hotel and an office block with panoramic views over the water and city.
Despite the restricting triangular site, all this was achieved by subdividing the project into three properties. The elevated congress hall corbels out over the entrance plaza, becoming much larger than its own footprint on the ground.
Externally, the elevated congress centre provides the main focal point, featuring an external shell enclosed by ‘veils’ constructed from 3500 z-profiles in stainless steel. Free flowing contours interplay with the movement in both the surrounding flyovers and the horizontal lines of the quays. The structure is fully prepared for illumination, further enhancing the centre’s distinct character.
The Stockholm Waterfront boasts many green credentials. Heat is generated via the glass façades, which act like huge solar collectors. Conversely, water from the nearby lake Klara Sjö cools the building, and is stored in the 250 tonne basement ice store. A complex control system transfers energy around the building, attending to both energy surpluses and deficits.
