A visually transparent office space with an illusion of height and spatial experience, where the architects played with scale and layout to explore the spatial potential. The 4000 sft office in Worli on the ground floor of prime real estate in Mumbai. The office houses art pieces of one of the partners and was one of the beginnings of this project. The main circulation spines that lead to the two stairs are organized around art pieces display zones and are the main connectors of the office, visually and literally. These also end up being break out zones where one ruminates over the art works. The space had a good height of 10’0” but the aim was to enhance this feeling and make it higher still. A horizontal line was introduced at the 6’9” mark above which wall surfaces were eliminated and replaced by glass.
This gave a illusion of the height being much more – like 11’-0” thus enhancing the spatial feel of the space. The office was flooded with light from the west and the choice of colours and finishes was determined by this feature. The project was zoned such that the client interface areas were located in the areas closest to the entrance with the partner cabins further away. Each cabin was fairly tight in space but the feeling of height made the spaces feel larger. A common support work area services the partner cabins and is located on the raised platform in the middle of the office.
