PROJECT: Hatlehol Chruch and Cultural Centre
TYPE: 1st prize in open international competition.
TEAM: E. Troelsgaard eng.
AREA: 2500 m2
The church and Cultural Centre is placed in the town of Hatlehol in Aalesund near the west coast of Norway. It will be situated in a remarkable landscape of fjords, woods and mountains. Nature plays an important part in the project. The church is
shaped as abstractions of the rocks and mountains in the landscape with integrated skylights and bell tower that rises as landmarks. The building is shaped by the movement of rain water down the roofs and by the existing rock landscape. Rain water is being collected in smaller ponds around the building blocks and led by the natural settings of the terrain to an existing
stream.
The buildings are made of concrete with wooden elements of local pine wood. The exterior facades and roof is covered with bright local slate.
The project is expected to be finished by 2016.
