The design of ‘Bridge,’ at the corner of Race and 2nd Street, engages critical issues facing most American cities, and Philadelphia in particular. At the edge of Old City, some of the oldest urban fabric in the country is cheek by jowl with the Ben Franklin Bridge and its scale of early 20th century industrial infrastructure. Discrepancies of size and scale of buildings within the urban context create philosophical questions of appropriateness for ‘the new’. As the city becomes a destination with the new waterfront park as an amenity, increasing development north of the bridge and changing demographics demand accommodations to housing and shopping needs, and a revived preference for city living. ‘Bridge’ answers questions posed by these issues at the nexus of this new urban excitement.
Philadelphia’s first high-rise LEED Gold luxury apartment building, ‘Bridge’ offers 146 apartments with 10 percent affordable units. Amenities include spectacular city views, 8,000 SF of green roof terrace, gym, storage and parking.
