G4 plot, lying in the northwest of Zhongguancun Software Park (ZSP), is a green space for R&D staff’s relaxation and exercises. According to the ZSP general plan, 3 tennis courts and 2 basketball courts will be set up here. The site is a small, narrow and irregular polygon shape, so there will be no much area left excluded those courts. Fortunately, a 50-meter-wide urban shelter belt is adjacent to the site in the north and west. In order to make effective use of the space and integrate the courts into the green background, these courts are arranged in the periphery, with a green amphitheater occupying the center of the site. Several Chinese willows around the amphitheater enrich its spatial sense. The green amphitheater, providing quiet space for staff resting and generating a rich natural atmosphere for the whole site, also can be used as a stage for performance and awarding ceremony.
On the opposite of the green amphitheater are four round squares with wooden pergolas and picnic benches. These pergolas are surrounded by tall poplars, showing a repeated rhythm.
In order to avoid monotony, the pathway edges are designed in the ways of combination of straight lines and curve lines. The pavement shows different shades. These generate a linear landscape with sense of rhythm and vitality.
G4 successfully solves the contradiction between complex functions and limited area, and creates a pleasant and ideal environment for staff exercises and relaxation.
