Program: Develop display systems for Stores Globally & Head Quaters Retail space in New York City
Designed as Chilewich’s global prototype and first retail store, De-Spec thought about the ‘path of least resistance’ for an immersive retail store offering the most comprehensive collection of Chilewich tabletop and flooring design under one roof. The layout features a modular display system, allowing a myriad of shapes, sizes and styles to be displayed and interchanged effortlessly.
Organized around the concept of the point grid and using a peg wall, the store’s placemats, runners, rugs and other accessories are arranged to show a wave of colors which highlight the complexity and richness of the textiles, as well as the shapes and textures of the objects. The system was designed as a prototype and can be easily adapted into other stores. The 820-square-foot space arranges placemats, runners, rugs and other accessories to show a wave of colors which highlight the complexity and richness of the textiles, as well as the shapes and textures of the objects. The display tables and furniture are composed of solid, ebonized white oak, as well as blackened and waxed steel, and sit over a light grey concrete floor finish.
The new retail store offers the most comprehensive collection of Chilewich tabletop and flooring designs under one roof. The expansive display system, including the peg wall and its component parts, are fabricated in Black MDF. Made exclusively for the store, the faceted white wall, with a hand-plastered finish, acts as counterpoint to the otherwise dark display.
